Founded in 2020 by Curtis James Felten and Chase Tyler Young, Black Helmut is a Detroit-based art and design entity. Black Helmut began as a direct-to-consumer furniture company but has since embraced plasticity; taking shape as a curatorial project, durational performance collective, and (currently) as an architectural design and build studio. Their approach to design is athletic in its willingness to adapt to shifting environments, conditions, and briefs; as such, Black Helmut is at its best when engaging with collaborators and while in the shop covered in dust. Black Helmut is 11'9" tall, throws right, writes left, and will never start a podcast.
